Kastel shoes

In Norway, we don’t explain the weather. We already know how to live well in it. You dress for the weather you know is coming. You don’t wait for it to change. We call it cultivated resilience. It’s the foundation of everything we make.

The shoes closest to the door

They’re there for a reason. The ones you put on without thinking. The ones that work, no matter the day. In Norway, it’s not the nicest pair that sits there. It’s the best one. And our vision is to be those shoes for you.

The Kastel Formula

“There’s no such thing as bad weather – only bad clothing.” In Norway, that’s more than a saying — it’s how we live.

We’ve grown up dressing for unpredictable conditions, trusting a simple formula: waterproof protection on the outside, and wool for warmth and breathability. From fishermen at sea to kids in the playground — it’s part of who we are.

At Kastel, we’ve adapted that mindset into footwear. We combine waterproof PU and temperature-regulating wool to make shoes built for everyday life — no matter the weather.

Raised by Weather. Built for every day.

Timeline section

It started with a question:

Why aren't there shoes made for Norwegian weather? From that moment, we’ve followed our curiosity — learning, testing, and building one step at a time. Here's how Kastel came to be, and where we're heading next.

1996

A seed was planted

Inspired by the skate-shoe culture of the 90s, 13-year-old Andreas Malo Dyb decides he’ll one day start a Norwegian sneaker brand.

2004 - 2007

Learning the craft

Andreas studies Industrial Design in Milan before returning to Norway to work at Dale Skofabrikk — where he learns classic shoe craftsmanship from the ground up.

2009

Mastering outdoor tech

Andreas gains hands-on experience working with Norwegian outdoor footwear brands, building knowledge in weather-specific performance.

2013 - Duro

Kastel is launched

Seventeen years after the dream began, Kastel was born — offering clean sneakers designed for Nordic weather.

2014 – Ladera

Everyday function, reimagined

Kastel releases its first summer shoe with an elastic heel. Easy to slip on, easy to love.

2015 – Madla

The first waterproof sneaker

Madla is launched — a waterproof sneaker/boot hybrid that challenges the market. No more soggy shoes or stiff boots.

2019 – Briskeby

Introducing Merino wool

Kastel launches its first Merino wool sneaker, exploring natural materials for warmth, breathability, and comfort.

2020 – Lofoten

Norwegian wool, proudly used.

Kastel’s first shoe using local Norwegian wool from the endangered Grå Trønder sheep — strong, breathable, and naturally weather-ready.

2020 – Røros

Waterproof, without membranes

A new chapter: Kastel develops its first membrane-free waterproof shoe. Lightweight, flexible, and chemical-free.

2021 – Stavern

Less parts, more purpose

Stavern is designed with just 11 components instead of 31 — lighter, stronger, and machine washable. A step toward smarter, cleaner design.

2022 – Madla Hemp

Waterproof, waxable, and natural

Madla gets a hemp update — durable, breathable, and waterproofed with beeswax for longer life and fewer synthetics.

2023 – Lofoten White

Color on demand

To avoid overproduction, Kastel creates a white wool sneaker that can be dyed to any color — every shoe has the potential to be the bestseller.

2024 – 3D Knitted

Local knitting, natural materials

Kastel develops its first working prototype of a 3D-knitted sneaker made from Norwegian wool. Locally produced, minimal waste, and full of future potential.

2025 – Kampen

The first modular shoe

Kampen introduces Kastel’s modular system: interchangeable details that let you upgrade and refresh your shoes instead of replacing them.
